学院简介

英语教育学院的前身是基础英语学院。2001年3月,伴随着广东外语外贸大学教育改革的不断深化,基础英语学院应运而生。2005年5月,基础英语学院更名为英语教育学院;9月,迎来了第一批教育学(英语教育)专业本科生。2016年9月,第一批英语教育硕士研究生正式入校。学院成立时仅有46位教职员工,现在教职工已发展为138名,其中,专职教师128人,教授、副教授31人。专任教师中,拥有博士学位者32人,获取博士、硕士学位或研究生学历的教师占95%以上。此外,学院每年还聘请6-8名经验丰富的外籍专家。   

学院设有英语教育系、研究生教学部、实践教学部和第一、第二、第三、第四教学部等教学机构,分别负责教育系(英语教育)专业本科生、英语教育硕士研究生、英语实践活动以及大学英语系列课程之综合英语、学术英语和专用英语、网络英语视听说、文学文化和翻译等课程的教学、管理工作。学院一直致力于教学质量的提升,实施了诊断式教学督导、中外教师合作教学、校本教材开发,创新教研活动,取得了丰硕的成果。我校现为教育部大学英语教学改革示范点、广东省本科高校大学英语课程教学指导委员会秘书处单位。   

学院设有英语教育与语言学研究中心、英语教师发展研究中心、英语教育与社会文化研究中心、英语文学文化研究中心,从事相关领域的学术研究。近年来学院高显示度科研项目和成果不断凸显,多次获得国家社科基金、教育部人文社科基金、广东省211工程重点学科建设子项目等资助,发表百余篇核心期刊论文,出版了两百余册的专著、译著和教材。   

学院坚持“以人为本,科学发展”的办学理念,落实指导学院前面发展的“123456行动纲领”,以大学英语教学为根本立足点,以英语教育专业教学和研究生教育为发展增长点,践履“国际化、校本化、个性化、人性化、立体化”的教学理念,凸显分级教学、网络英语教学、专用英语教学、教师专业发展、英语第二课堂、学科层次提升等六大特色。在此氛围下,不但涌现出一大批教学优秀、在全国教学比赛中获得大奖的明星教师,而且培养出来的学生在国内赛事上取得优异成绩。教育学(英语教育)专业学生的就业竞争力曾在麦可思公司的评估报告中位列我校各专业的榜首……   

学院多次被学校授予先进集体、创优迎评先进集体、先进基层党组织、先进工会部门等荣誉称号,学院工会还先后被省教育工会、省总工会评为“先进职工小家”。   

英语教育学院业已形成了“团结进步、改革创新、务实合作”的学院文化,在教学、科研、社会服务等方面不断探索创新,取得日益丰富的硕果。

A Brief Introduction to the School
  The School of English and Education (SEE) , Guangdong University of ForeignStudies (GDUFS), formerly theInstitute of EnglishLanguage Education, originated in 2001 and took its present name in May, 2005. SEErecruited the first group of undergraduates (English Education) in September, 2005,and postgraduates in September, 2016. Atpresent, SEE has 138 teaching and administrativestaff, of whom 31 are professors or associate professors,32 hold doctoral degrees, and more than 95% own their master or higher degrees.In addition,the School hires 6-8 qualified scholars from English-speaking countries each year.
  SEE consists of 1 department and 6 teachingdivisions, namely, Department of English Education, Division for Graduate Education,Division for Teaching Practice, and the Teaching Divisions I, II, III, and IV. Thesedepartments and divisions take charge of the under- and postgraduate education forEnglish Education majors and extracurricular activities, and offer series of collegeEnglish courses including Integrated English, English for Academic Purposes(EAP) & English for Specific Purposes (ESP), Literature in English, WesternCulture, Translation, and Interpreting, etc. By adopting teaching supervision system,the Sino-foreign co-teaching model, school-based textbooks, and innovative teachingand research activities, SEE maintains a consistent improvement in teaching quality.As a result, the School has been approved by the Ministry of Education as “DemonstrationSite for College English Education Reform”, and has been the “Secretariat of GuangdongAdvisory Committee on College English Teaching”.
  Besides accomplishing teaching tasks, SEEcarries out research in relative fields with 4 academic research centers, i.e.,Center for English Education and Linguistics, Center for English Teacher Development,Center for English Education and Culture, and Center for English Literature andCulture. Recent years have witnessed the School’s prominent achievements in scientificresearch. SEE has repeatedly received the National Social Science Fund of China,Humanities and Social Sciences Fund of Ministry of Education, and funding of keysubjects construction programs of Guangdong Provincial Project 211.  Apartfrom these, SEE faculty have had over 200 monographs, translations, textbooks, andacademic papers published, including more than 100 papers in the core Chinese andoverseas journals.
  With the human-oriented concept of scientificdevelopment, SEE fully implements the “123456” Action Program and takes collegeEnglish teaching as the foothold and English Education at both under- and postgraduatelevels as the growth point. The School’s principle of a “global-vision yet school-based,comprehensive yet personalized” way of teaching is featured by graded teaching system,internet-based English courses, EAP & ESP instruction, English extracurricularactivities, and teachers' professional development program.Large numbers of star teachers have cometo the fore in various competitions at national and provincial level, and scoresof students have harvested medals and prizes in a variety of English competitionsand contests of English teaching, debating, speaking, and writing. According tothe assessment report of MyCOS, the employment competitive power of SEE graduatesranks the top among all the GDUFS majors.   
  SEE has been awarded by the university aseries of honorary titles, including “Model School”, “Model Grass-roots Party Organization”,and “Model Union Sector”, etc. The School’s union was voted “Model Staff’s Family”by Guangdong Provincial Labor Union.
  Throughout its history, SEE culture emergesas “unity for progress, reform for innovation and practicality for cooperation”.The School will continue to shape itselfto best serve its educational mission, while responding to the challenges of a changingsociety.
